Thalassery Welcomes KSRTC Double Decker Bus to Boost Tourism

The introduction of a double-decker bus in Thalassery marks a significant step towards exploring the country’s major tourist destinations. Originally operated in Thiruvananthapuram, the bus has been relocated to Thalassery as part of a comprehensive tourism package set to be inaugurated on February 22.

Seating arrangements include 33 people on the ground floor and 30 on the upper floor. This double-decker service is poised to connect Thalassery’s prominent tourist centers, such as Thalasseri Kadalpalam, Jawahar ghat, Kota, Odathill Palli, Muzhupilangadi Beach, and Mahi Palli. The specific route and ticket pricing details are pending a decision, to be determined in an upcoming meeting. The plan entails operating five services daily.

Following the success of a similar service in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) aims to provide sightseeing opportunities in the capital city. The initiative gained momentum after the double-decker bus, introduced by C, became popular, prompting requests from various parts of the state. Thalassery MLA A.N. Shamseer played a pivotal role in bringing the bus to Thalassery.

In Thiruvananthapuram, the existing bus service runs from 9 am to 4 pm and from 5 pm to 10 pm, with a ticket price of Rs 250. Additionally, the city has introduced electric double-decker buses, with the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation acquiring two electric open double-decker buses for KSRTC as part of a budget tourism initiative.

While Kochi also operates a double-decker bus service, it primarily functions as a commuter service.
