Choolanur Peacock Sanctuary

The Choolanur Peacock Sanctuary is a bird sanctuary located in the Palakkad district of Kerala, India. It is spread over an area of 500 hectares and is home to over 200 peacocks.

Choolanur Peacock Sanctuary is a blissful place to indulge in different thrilling activities which is located almost 30 kilometers from Palakkad town. Choolanur Peacock Sanctuary is a paradise for bird lovers where they can watch rich and assorted breed of birds. Even though it is famous as a peacock sanctuary, you can see more than 100 assorted breed of birds in it.  A lot of nature and bird lovers visit this sanctuary each year to enjoy varieties of birds and study the woody areas of the sanctuary. It also advanced over the Thiruvilwamala village of Thrissur district. Choolanur Peacock Sanctuary is situated in the midst of Alathur Forests Range. In addition to famous as a haven for birds, Choolanur bird sanctuary is also famous as a grand herbal garden. The 200- hectares Kunchan Smritivanam is a part of this bird sanctuary which is named after the famous Malayalam poet Kunjan Nambiar.

Best time to visit:

The best time to visit the Choolanur Peacock Sanctuary is just after the monsoon season. The monsoon in this region is very heavy which make it difficult for the travelers to explore the area. So, it is better to avoid visiting this sanctuary during June to August. Choose any time from October to April to visit Choolanur Peacock Sanctuary. Since the area is mainly rocky and there is not thick forest, travelers can explore the region comfortably after the monsoon.
