Peechi Dam was designed by E Ikkanda Warrier, the first Prime Minister of the independent state of Kochi during that period. Peechi Dam project faced a lot of opposition in the initial stages. Even the engineers in Kerala were against the construction of the dam. So, the prime minister brought a retired chief engineer from Andhra Pradesh and he could complete it in 1957.
