Day 01 : KOCHI – KUMARAKOM
You will be welcomed by a Transpire representative at the Cochin/Kochi Airport and drive you to Kumarakom, a panoramic backwater village. A lot of leisure options are waiting for you at this destination. Check-in to the hotel on arrival. Visit the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, a natural habitat of local and migratory birds. Go for a sunset cruise in the evening (optional) or relax near the Vembanad Lake and enjoy the spectacular charm of the backwaters. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 02 : KUMARAKOM
A Day At The Backwater Village
Enjoy a journey through the backwater villages. Leave the hotel after your breakfast for visiting Responsible Tourism spots. Experience an exciting village life along the shorelines of Vembanadu Lake with rich paddy fields and coconut palms. Trip along the astounding canals and relax in the houseboat can be a life time experience.
The well known backwater destination, Kumarakom is a cluster of scenic but small islands. Surrounded by Vembanad Lake, it must be an amazing experience for the travelers to visit this area and enjoy cruising through the backwaters. Yes, Kumarakom is reputed for its backwaters, eye catching greenery and mouth-watering cuisines. In fact, it is among the most famous tourist spots in the state.
Todays’ journey will be started at Kavanatinkara. A guide will accompany you and give an idea about the tour of the day. He will help you to familiarize the lush green surroundings and rich landscape of the destination. Your trip starts in a country boat.
Country Boat: Get in to the country boat to proceed to the Manjira Village. You will get a grand reception there from the villagers with flower garlands. Lots of excitements are waiting for you here. One of the villagers will show you two different ways of climbing the top of a coconut tree. He uses a thalappu, a traditional and laborious way first. Then he uses modern equipments to climb the tree without any difficulty. The villagers will treat you with tender coconut.
Proceed to a villager’s house where you can watch the beauty of paddy fields. You can taste tender coconut and its water at this house. While you walk through the village, you can watch toddy tapping. From the paddy fields, proceed to a coconut grove. The Toddy is a traditional beverage tapped from coconut tree. Just taste it fresh out of the pot. After that visit a nearest vegetable plantation and watch unique spices and vegetable plants.
Weaving Unit: Watch the traditional art of coconut leaf weaving by visiting a local woman’s house. Also, try your hand in this art.
Net Fishing: Learn some traditional effective tips from a skilled fisherman at this village and try them now. You will be amazed to see how he casts a net an easily catches fish in it. Get in to the boat again to watch the coir making process.
Coir Making: Visit one of the coir making units in the village and watch this awesome process. This is your excellent chance to get an idea about the different steps involved in coir spinning. Try your hand in the process. It must be exciting!
Take a break to enjoy a traditional lunch at a nearby restaurant or a farmer’s house in this village. They serve boiled rice and several delicious delights on a plantain leaf. After your sumptuous meal, head to the next destination.
Bow And Arrow Fishing: Fishermen show you the traditional way of fishing using bow and arrow here. You will be delighted to try your hand in this way of catching fish.
Screw Pines: You can also get to know how to make pine products by visiting a native who is expert in this art. Get 1-2 products that catch your attention from there. Head to the nearest farm before end this days’ trip.
Livestock Farming: Visit a farmer’s house to watch his real livestock farm and how it works. You will be able to get an idea about the different methods and stages involved in farming. Watch varieties of cattle breeds at this farm. Before you go, enjoy a hot cup of tea and snacks from a house at the village. Return to the hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 3 : KUMARAKOM – KOCHI / COCHIN
It is the last day of your trip. Leave the hotel after your breakfast to Cochin/Kochi airport or Ernakulam railway station for your onward journey. You will be able to go back to your home with beautiful memories of your backwater holidays.
