Kochi is a wonderful tourist destination in Kerala that offers plenty of surprises to their visitors. The latest news about this harbor city is that it has become a member of the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) Council, an international tourism organization based in Beijing.
The Kerala Tourism Department has accepted the invitation of the Council to become a member of it. Now Kochi is also among the leading tourism cities in the world.
WORLD TOURISM CITIES FEDERATION MEMBER (WTCF)
It has certainly been a privilege to be a member of the World Tourism Cities Federation Council that helps to promote the tourism in the port city.
Focusing mainly on cities, this international organization not only promotes cities as international tourist destinations, but also strengthens the relation between the member cities. With a great framework, it has a general assembly, the council and the Secretariat in addition to several scholars and experts from the tourism industry who promotes the marketing of the member cities.
Membership Acceptance
The document for the membership acceptance of the Council has handed over to Le Yucheng, the Chinese Ambassador to India by the Kochi Mayor, Tony Chammany at a function held recently.
The document has handed over in the presence of Oommen Chandy, the honorable Chief Minister of Kerala, Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson, Tourism Director P I Sheik Pareeth, and G Kamala Vardhana Rao, the Kerala Tourism Secretary. Other personalities who attended the function are P H Kurian, State Principal Secretary for IT and Industries and T Balakrishnan, Former Secretary.
The membership was the result of a meeting between Jiji Thomson, the Kerala Chief Secretary and Wang Anshun, the chairman of WTCF Council, who also the Beijing Mayor. It was Wang Anshun who asked this port city to join the league of major tourist cities across the world.
The membership of the Council brings so many opportunities for the promotion of tourism between Cochin/ Kochi and Beijing. Since these two cities has several similarities in their cultures such as cuisines, special boat races and martial arts, they can find out opportunities for partnerships in various spheres like tourism, culture and sports.
In order to promote tourism between China and India and improve the inflow of Chinese tourists to Kerala, the Chinese Ambassador recommended the government to organize a meeting of the tour operators of India and China. He also expressed his interest in bringing investment to the tourism sector of Kerala for the development of an oceanarium and entertainment city.
The membership will serves as a platform for the promotion of tourism in India and China and bring several investment possibilities in the tourism industry.
