Lulu Island (Al Lulu Island) is a 1050 acre man made island located on the Coast of Abu Dhabi Island. It extends from Abu Dhabi Breakwater to the Zayed Sea Port. The whole island is 7 kms in length and 3 kms faces the Abu Dhabi corniche and this makes it very convenient place to visit, just need a boat ride to reach there.
The Lulu Island resort will have apartments, villas, penthouses and townhouses, the layout is going to be a judicious mix of spaces urban living and public spaces, all will be developed in time-framed phases. The living spaces will present a wide array of activities and facilities and living spaces. The design emphasize on sustainable community experience.
In the year April 2007 Abu Dhabi government presented the island to the public. The vision of the government is to build a special world of experiences combining entertainment, culture, fun and leisure elements and finally recreational activities.
Lulu Island has fantastic beaches and the place has all potential to turn as a hub of people who love to take part in water sports in Abu Dhabi.
The island is co-owned by the development company owned by the Abu Dhabi Government and a real estate company. The master plan for this almost 500-hectare island consists of a construction of a permanent bridge meant to connect the island to the mainland. There would be a 400 m landmark tower known as Lulu Tower. According to sources, the construction is supposed to start in 2013 and will have 15 neighbourhoods, schools, shops and mosques. As per plans 40 per cent of the island would be open space and 70 per cent of the shore would accessible to the public. Around 33,000 people are supposed to live in Lulu.
Lulu Island is already a great tourist spot. Boats take tourists from Emirates Heritage Village to Lulu Island. People can see around the island using a small train and buses. Other attractions of the island are marinas, gardens, canals, botanical gardens, children play zones, Bird and animal sanctuaries, fun-parks and other resorts are under construction and will be added soon.
Ticket charges to visit the island are Dh 15 for adults and for children it is free. The ticket charge comprises of trip to the island in an air-conditioned vessel with a capacity of 60 passengers or another vessel with a capacity of 25 passengers. It sails between Marina near the Heritage Village of Abu Dhabi Corniche every 30 minute. The cost of Lulu Island tour in an open-roof train would be Dh 5 per person.
