Thirunakkara Arattu is a famous temple festival celebrated in the city of Kottayam in the state of Kerala, India. It is held at the Thirunakkara Mahadeva Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The festival takes place in the Malayalam month of Meenam (March-April) and lasts for ten days. It culminates with the grand procession known as Arattu. The word “Arattu” means a holy bath or immersion. During this procession, the presiding deity of the temple is taken out in a ceremonial procession to the nearby Meenachil River, where a ritualistic bath is performed.

The Arattu procession is a spectacular sight to behold, with beautifully decorated elephants, traditional music, and colorful processional floats. Devotees from different parts of Kerala come to witness and participate in this festival.

The festival also includes various cultural programs, including classical music and dance performances, traditional art forms like Kathakali, and religious rituals. The temple premises are illuminated with thousands of oil lamps, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere.
